YEARBOOK Mrs. Elizabeth Luhn hsguidance@broadfording.com/ 301-797-8886, ext. 152 Students in this class will be responsible for producing the 2010-2011 BCA Yearbook. It is helpful if the student has his/her own digital camera; however, it is not required. We do have one nice yearbook camera that can be shared by the students. The first quarter will be spent covering lessons on quality picture taking, creative layouts, yearbook design, creating the yearbook “ladder,” soliciting yearbook advertisers, proper grammar and punctuation, writing and editing written pieces, learning the importance of proofreading, collecting necessary items, attending school programs and events, and learning what it means to be a professional. A strong emphasis will be placed on QUALITY workmanship throughout the year. A leadership series entitled HONORABLE LEADERSHIP will also be taught in-between yearbook lessons. Our Yearbook Express computer program will not arrive until sometime in October; therefore, we will use most of our class time in August and September to complete lessons on the topics mentioned above. This is also the time that students will be required to get at least one yearbook advertiser. Students will enjoy periodic photo shoots where they can go around school and take pictures. Most of the HONORABLE LEADERSHIP series will be taught during the first and second marking periods. After the computer program is loaded in mid-October, the students will begin creating the actual yearbook pages. Each student will be responsible for certain pages in the book. Completing the yearbook pages will become our primary focus through the months of November, December, January and February. In addition to working on the yearbook pages, the students will plan and host a presale party, which will take place in December right before Christmas break. The middle school and high school small groups will be invited to this party. Presale order forms will be distributed to all students. The yearbook will need to be completed by mid-February. Springtime will be a “breath of fresh air” after completing this BIG project! We will use the remainder of the school year to work on the Senior Appendix, which is a supplement to the yearbook that honors our graduating seniors. The Senior Appendix is free of charge to anyone who purchases a book. Yearbooks will arrive in May, and the yearbook class will be helpful in distributing the books.
